Sleep is one of the most important processes of the human body. Without it, our organs and senses would not function. Yet what if you did not need this feature in your life? If sleep became unnecessary, what would you do with the extra time?
Imagine a world where no one ever uses a bed, or their energy never runs out. How would this affect productivity, life itself, and the environment? Would it be for the better, or would it expand the damage and havoc humans are capable of wreaking?
What is Sleep and Why do You need it?
Sleep is a biological process used by the body to regenerate and repair organs, systems, and cells. When the body’s systems reach a limit, the brain orders rest and repair. Cells, tissues, and organs that have worked for hours must shut down to allow regeneration.
Without rest and sleep, body cells die and are never replaced or restored. After continued deterioration, organs and systems start to malfunction. eventually, the organism ceases and shuts down.
This makes sleep a necessity for life and the universal method used by the body to function.
What Would Happen if Sleep Were Eliminated?
The city that never sleeps is New York’s most famous slogan. And it would seem so from a distance. But the inhabitants do sleep, but what if they could eliminate this need?
For most people, time is money. So, bet your life that the majority would get down to business and find more ways to earn. Maybe three eight-hour shift jobs, or a day job mixed with a night job.
Others believe that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So, off to the beach, the park, the movies, and anything that would give unending fun! The list of things to do would fill volumes, and people would go all out to accomplish them.
Then there are those with a criminal mind. They would have all the time in the world to pull off their masterpiece. Rob a bank, steal a car, and get the girl. Just imagine the huge police force, army, and support staff. The world would have to fight for peace and rest.
Without the need for sleep, the human race would be different. all extremes will be on the table, and in a world without rest.
