Mountain View College

This week’s blogging journey is not about an ordinary blogger. In fact, no blog is made without an underlying story that they are just bursting inside to be shared. Come with me as we listen to the path that led Mountain View College to start its own blog.

Dreamers are the main reason why blogs are born, and you know that, too. After all, you are one of them. Years ago, an Evangelist pastor, Porfilio Gonzalez, created a small Christian college.

Dubbed Mountain View College (Vista a la Montaña), the school is located in a remote community in the hills of Nicaragua. A former Indian town, Troilo is still warming up to technology, and most believe that having a blog was overwhelming.

A Blogging Journey for Mountain View College

blogging journey

Gonzalex knew that launching a blog would open Troilo to the world, but he had many hurdles to overcome.

  • Internet connectivity was expensive, and very few people owned a computer
  • No one else shared his dream, and he needed support to get the job done
  • He had very few writing skills and had no idea how to even create a blog.

For many years, the college blog remained a dream. In 2019, the Pandemic rocked the world, and with it, many prominent leaders lost their lives. Mountain View College also lost its Director.

However, what seemed to be the end of an era also proved to be the dawn of a blogging journey. About mid-year, a prominent Jamaican writer asked the college to rent him Internet access due to a local hurricane. The college provided the services at no cost.

The Jamaican was grateful and offered to help the college if it ever needed help.   However, the pastor had no idea what the Jamaican did and refused.

A Jamaican Joins Mountain View College

In June 2022, the math and physics teacher quit the college for a better-paying job in the city.  Pastor Gonzalez invited the Jamaican to take over the area. Later, he shared his dream of a blog for the college. The Jamaican simply said, “That’s what I do! I will be delighted to help.”

Within weeks, the college was proud to debut its own blog. News, information, and fundraising rolled to the scene. It took more than ten years for Mountain View College to start its blogging journey, but finally, the blog is a reality.

Blog Notes sat dot with the pastor to listen to this new blogging journey, knowing that there are may more worth sharing. Bloggers are extraordinary people who find means and ways to keep us reading. Share your story.
