In 2009, an Italian law student, Chiara Ferragni, rolled out her first blog called the Blonde Salad. The blog quickly found an audience and spiralled into a fashion and lifestyle million-dollar blog. This week, Blog Notes shares the story of this popular influencer, her struggles, her setbacks, and her triumphs.
Many of the millionaire bloggers who exist today did not set out to become wealthy. Nor did Ferragni. She started sharing photos of herself on some of the popular social websites at the time, including Lookbook.nu and Flickr. However, she soon got bored with the limitations of these platforms and yearned to launch her own website.
Inspiration for the Blonde Salad at the Dining Table
A million-dollar blog can be launched from anywhere, even at the dinner table. While sharing her ideas with her friends at the dining table, they decided to name the blog Blond due to the popular colors at the table, and Salad because of the wide variety of topics she wanted to cover. Thus, the Blonde Salad was born. It may surprise you that even today, the blog still uses a mixture of topics, including Chiara’s personal style, travels, and everyday experiences.
As the blog garnered followers and sponsors, she expanded the content to express her new art
- Fashion
- Chiara Ferragni’s personal stories
- Her own fashion line collection
- Travels
- Beauty
In an early blog post, Allure said that “The Blonde Salad quickly gained a large following, and Chiara began collaborating with brands and launching her own fashion line, Chiara Ferragni Collection. The blog also evolved into a media platform with an e-commerce component, offering exclusive capsule collections and online magazine content. “
Growth and Success for the Blonde Salad
As the BlondSalad gained traction, the number of followers rose steadily, and Chiara’s blog and brand gained international recognition. Many popular news media featured the blog, including Forbes, Harvard Business School case studies, and collaborations with major fashion houses.
With more customers and now millions of followers, running a million-dollar blog can become hectic. Soon, she was expanding her team and even established a talent and marketing agency, TBS Crew. The agency is responsible for managing her own brand and other talents.
“A big, heavy beauty case. Most people live life on the go. I really wanted a palette that had a little bit of everything. There are four eye shadows, three highlighters, four lipsticks, and one lipgloss in the one I created with Lancme.” Chiara Ferragni
